Week in Review
Our poetry unit is going very well! We practiced using onomatopoeias (sound words) within poems.
Last week, we looked at what happens to different kinds of soil when they get wet. We did a streak test (streaking wet soil across paper to observe what happens). We tested sand, humus and clay.
The Science Center visited to help us make vermicomposters. Each group decided what to put in the vermicomposter and then put several worms in. We will observe these weekly to see if any changes occur.

Reading - As we continue our book series clubs, we will focus on the author's craft. We will look at the precise words an author chooses to use and how it effects the book and identifying literary language and the meaning within the text. We will also look at special ways an author uses text to convey meaning (bold, italics, commas, periods).
Writing - We will learn different structures of poems including list poems, conversation (two-voice) poems and acrostic poems.
Math - We are continuing to practice double digit adding and subtracting with regrouping. This week we will focus on solving word problems.
Science - We will look at our data from last week's investigation on wet soil. We will analyze and interpret the data. We will also observe the vermicomposters.
