Week in Review
We started the week with a field trip to the Needham Town Forest. There was a scavenger hunt and scientific observations about what happened to some of the trees that fell over.
Thank you PTC for funding the Osmos and Ms. Tennyson for introducing them to the class in the Tech Center. The kids really enjoyed spelling words on the iPads using the letter tiles.
They learned about tens, ones, and hundreds when working with larger numbers and expanded their knowledge of place value by regrouping ones and tens. Ask them about the Wonder Wheel Factory! They also did a scavenger hunt with QR codes.
We also conducted an experiment with celery and red dye to learn about roots. Everyone was amazed that the celery brought the red dye throughout the plant!

Reading - We completed the 1st unit in reading. We will conclude by choosing a strategy or multiple strategies that have helped during independent reading time.
Writing - We are learning about shades of meaning and when to use certain words to express severity within a narrative. Partner editing will be a big part of the editing and revising part as we choose the pieces to be published for the end of the unit.
Math - We will continue practicing regrouping using numbers up to 3 digits. We will begin comparing 3 digit numbers using symbols and writing number words larger than 20.
Science - There will be a focus on the leaves of a plant this week and how they bring food to the plant. We will compare and contrast the leaves to the roots from last week's lessons.
