Week in Review
Dot Day was celebrated throughout the school. September 15 is the official day and it helps celebrate creativity and collaboration. In class we created collaborative dots by illustrating a quarter of a dot and then putting them together to make a really big dot.
We practiced finding 10 more and 10 less on the Number Line Hotel by playing a dice game.

Reading - We are starting the 1st unit of study "Second Grade Reading Growth Spurt." The students will learn how to choose just right books for independent reading, how to partner read, how to read tricky words, and the author's purpose. Soon the students will have a book bag with books of their choosing to read independently.
Writing - We are starting the 1st unit of study "Personal Narrative." We will use the inspiration sheet you and your child created at home. The students will learn how to write with details, edit to make sense, and to revise with intent. We will use Owl Moon by Jane Yolen to guide our writing.
Math - We are learning about math centers, how to talk about math, and math games using different materials.
